Thousands raised for charity by Tour de Furness riders - reported by Geoff James
Nearly £30,000 was raised for charities by the riders taking part in the 2018 Tour de Furness. A presentation was made at Barrow Golf Club to the riders raising the most sponsorship. Over 300 riders took part in the ride which covered 4 rides of 5, 13, 23 and 50 miles. One of the riders did the 50 mile ride on a bike made out of bamboo – she had previously ridden the length of South America on the bike!
The winners of the Team prize and the Bill Bartlett Trophy was Barrow Rotary Wheelers who raised £1524. There were also trophies for the Juniors which was won by Will Morrow (£590) and for the Seniors which was won by Lee Drury (£937)
There was also a special acknowledgment for Will Morrow who has raised the most amount of money for 5 out of the 6 junior rides that he has done raising over £2,400.
